Gold schefflera is a variegated form of the dwarf umbrella tree: small, glossy leaflets fan out around each stalk like an umbrella, splashed with golden yellow. It fills bright corners with cheerful green and is easy to look after.

Why a gold schefflera?

• Bright gold colour on green leaves.
• Tolerates the odd missed watering.

Where to put it

Near a bright window in the living room, majlis, office or indoor entrance – a little gentle morning sun is fine. Keep it out of strong midday sun behind glass and away from AC draughts.

Care in the Saudi climate

• Light: bright light; variegated forms need more light to keep their colour.
• Water: when the top 3–5 cm are dry, and empty the saucer.
• Air: dry air can encourage spider mites; check leaf undersides now and then.
• Pruning: trim long stems to keep it bushy.
• Feeding: a light balanced feed in spring and summer.
